A former manager of Olympique Lyonnais reveals that a French striker, finalist for the 2022 World Cup, declined an offer from the Rhone club last summer.

Juninho, Olympique Lyonnais

Former sporting director of the club, Juninho made a revelation about the previous summer transfer window of Olympique Lyonnais. On the waves of RMCThursday, the Brazilian explains that the club based in the Rhône wanted to recruit a striker from the championship of France, before this one decides to engage free with a training of Bundesliga.

At the end of the contract at FC Nantes, Randal Kolo Muani appeared on the shelves of Gones. But the former midfielder indicates that the tricolor international, finalist of the 2022 World Cup and established by Didier Deschamps for the two matches of the Euro 2024 qualifiers against the Netherlands (4-0) and the Ireland (1-0), had not responded favorably to the approach of the Rhone leaders.

Bonuses that changed everything

“The versatility, the power, the desire to defend, to fight for the team. He’s a competitor. We had to work a little more technically to be better. It’s a nice player profile to have, that’s what struck me. He always hurt us when he played against us. He didn’t want to come, that’s the truth. He chose Frankfurt. I spoke once with him and several times with his agent who is also very nice. In Germany, some players have point bonuses. Some players can earn 20 or 30% more if they play this or that game. I think that weighed in too.”

Under contract until June 2027, the 24-year-old goleador has shown himself to his advantage across the Rhine with 16 goals in 35 games in all competitions, since the start of the 2022-2023 season, for 11 goals in 24 Bundesliga games. Noted performances which excite the interest of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, cited as two possible destinations for the native of Bondy.
