It’s no secret that relations between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona are far from being in good shape. The presidents of the two clubs do not like each other very much and their vision of football and its future are now very far apart.
Nasser Al-Khelaïfi spoke this Friday at the general assembly of the ECA (European Club Association) and issued a warning aimed, without naming him directly, at the Catalan club. The president of PSG subtly accuses FC Barcelona of endangering football by using suspicious transactions to pay off debts. “We have to be careful. Dangerous levels of debt and magic equity deals are not a sustainable path. We need to think long term, not short term”, dropped the one who also holds the position of president of the ECA. Even if its debt remains high, the Blaugrana club managed to end the 2021-2022 season in the green thanks to the sale of several players and the sale of part of its assets, such as Barça Studios.
Al-Khelaïfi positive for the future
Before this barely concealed criticism against the Spanish club, also used to small attacks against PSG, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi highlighted the “new financial viability rules”. “They are a positive development. These rules help control costs. They encourage investments and new investors. They will help ensure the sustainability of football”he continued.
Tebas replies in stride
Never discreet when it comes to attacking PSG, Javier Tebas curtly replied to the Parisian president on Twitter. “There is no magic. FC Barcelona sold part of its funds to cover its losses. Instead, PSG ‘open the gas’. For sustainable football, the first thing to do is to pay what you owe. True ?”wrote the president of La Liga on the social network.
No hay magia el @FCBarcelona_es ha vendido parte de su patrimonio para cubrir sus pérdidas, en el @psg_inside in cambio “abres el gas”. Para un futbol lo primero es pagar lo que se debe VERDAD?
