Namesake of Paris Saint-Germain centre-back, young Sao Paulo winger Marquinhos is set to be Arsenal’s first summer signing.
Revealed initially by the Brazilian press, the information was confirmed this Saturday by the journalist Fabrizio Romano, generally well informed. The Italian presents the case as almost complete and explains that the Gunners will pay between 3 and 3.5 million euros for the Brazilian. A sign of the progress of this file, the player’s papers are already being prepared and his arrival should be formalized once everything has been completed at the administrative level.
Presented as a right winger also capable of playing in the axis, Marquinhos is 19 years old. International U16 and U17 auriverde in the past, he was launched by his training club in the summer of 2021 and has a total of 4 goals scored and 3 assists delivered in 39 games played as a professional.

In this case, Arsenal was able to take advantage of a legal imbroglio that shook Sao Paulo. Indeed, Marquinhos signed his first professional contract in 2019, at the age of 16, and for a period of 5 years. If this type of lease is authorized in Brazil, on the other hand FIFA imposes a ceiling of 3 years maximum for the first professional contract of all players. Sao Paulo has already found itself confronted with this type of dispute in the past and did not want to take the risk of reliving it with Marquinhos. This explains why the English were able to negotiate the arrival of the young talent at a relatively low price despite a contract running until June 2024.
If the winger should therefore act as the Gunners’ first summer recruit, it is another Brazilian striker who is especially expected on the side of the Emirates in the coming weeks. Arsenal is indeed presented as the big favorite to welcome Gabriel Jesuson the start at Manchester City.
Arsenal are now preparing paperworks to complete Marquinhos deal with São Paulo. Brazilian club will receive around €3/3.5m total fee with immediate payment, once final details will be sorted. ⌛️🇧🇷 #AFC
