After two seasons at Atlético Madrid, Luis Suarez will leave the Spanish capital. The Uruguay international is already looking for a new challenge.
It is now official. At the end of the contract next June, Luis Suarez will not extend his contract with the Colchoneros. If some rumors already sent the former FC Barcelona striker to Major League Soccer, it seems that the main interested party is finally tempted by a last big challenge in a major championship. The Uruguayan striker keeps in mind this objective of playing in the United States but could first opt for a last contract in Europe.
Arriving in 2020 at Atlético Madrid, Suarez was clearly one of the great architects of the league title won by Diego Simeone’s players last season. Less effective during this 2021-22 exercise, the Uruguayan international lost his place as an indisputable starter but still scored 11 goals in 33 La Liga appearances this season. Obviously not enough to convince its leaders to offer him a new lease. El Pistolero suffers the same fate as his teammate Hector Herrera, also on the start.
Suarez could be tempted by a return to FC Barcelona according to the Catalan press. The player would have been called directly by the Blaugrana president Joan Laporta to find out if a possible return to Camp Nou could seduce him. The recruitment of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last winter does not seem to be a brake for the management of the club but Suarez could be cooled by competition. Another Colchoneros player would still be in Barça’s sights. Joao Félix indeed remains a major objective of the Blaugrana management. For his last game played at home this Sunday, Luis Suarez started against Sevilla FC but failed to find the fault. The two teams left in a draw (1-1) at the Metropolitano.
Al término de partido, el Wanda @Metropolitano will render homenaje a @LuisSuarez9 there @HHerreramex, que se despiden hoy de la familia atlética.
