Manchester United-PSG: Only one option, to win

Paris Saint-Germain will travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Wednesday, day 5 of the group phase of the Champions League. In order to approach the last day in optimal conditions, the club from the capital must absolutely win at the Red Devils.

Years go by but not all are the same for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Accustomed to flying over its groups, with one or two exceptions, the club from the French capital finds itself with its back to the wall for a qualification for the Round of 16. In order to reach the next round, Thomas Tuchel’s men have no choice but to make a positive result, this Wednesday, in England.

There is only one option: win.

The Parisians must win to stay alive. Should RB Leipzig win against Istanbul Basaksehir earlier in the evening, Neymar’s partners would be forced to take all three points at Old Trafford against Manchester United. A scenario that would put the French, English and German clubs within 9 points of each other in Group H before Leipzig-MU and PSG-Basaksehir on the final day.

In other words, any result other than a success would put Paris in a very complicated situation before the final league match, scheduled for next week. Without this essential victory on a field where they have made a real demonstration, a little less than two years ago, on the occasion of an 8th final first leg, the Franciliens would no longer have their destiny between their feet. Win, win and win, this is the PSG’s motto in the Théâtre des Rêves.

PSG:A classic 4-3-3

To get the upper hand over the British formation, which won its two home games with 9 goals scored for a single goal conceded, PSG will have to offer something else than the infamous porridge served against Bordeaux (2-2), Saturday in League 1. The German coach cannot count on Juan Bernat, Julian Draxler, Pablo Sarabia and Mauro Icardi for this top-level clash. On the other hand, Presnel Kimpembe and Idrissa Gueye are back from suspension.

Barring any surprises, the Parisian manager should opt for a classic 4-3-3. Marquinhos, used to playing in the midfield in C1, should find a more natural position as a central defender. Marco Verratti, back in form, will be the leader of the middle, where Danilo Pereira and Leandro Paredes should support him. In attack, it is classic, with the expected presence of Angel Di Maria, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé. A tempting eleven that has no room for error.
