Newcastle would have withdrawn the proposal sent to sign Hugo Ekitike. PSG would now be favorites to obtain their reinforcement this transfer window.

According to the details provided by the English media 90min, the negotiations between the representatives of Hugo Ekitike and Newcastle went badly. His agent would have been considered too greedy by the Magpies, with additional costs and bonuses that they did not plan to finance: the club would have decided to leave the discussion table. He could return there if the Rémois adviser reconsidered his recent demands. Note that the article speaks of compensation of around 35 million euros for his transfer and indicates that the PSG is now in pole position to recruit him.

Ekitike instead of Neymar?

Because Paris may be able to rely on stars in attack, its leaders also intend to strengthen the sector this summer. A few days ago, RMC Sports had confirmed an interest from PSG for the Stade de Reims striker. Luis Campos could bet on him to bring fresh blood and some extra competition in the attacking field. Hugo Ekitike is particularly capable of playing on the left flank, where Neymar has somewhat disappointed this season.

The international auriverde has indeed again experienced several physical glitches. And Nasser Al-Khelaïfi was very vague when discussing the future of the Brazilian, in his recent interviews. The Parisians are however far from being masters of the situation: the contract of the former Barcelonan should be automatically extended by two years, on 1er July. The native of Mogi das Cruzes will then be hired until June 2027, with an inaccessible salary for most clubs.

The U20 international’s name has also been mentioned at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Hugo Ekitike has scored 10 goals and provided 3 assists in 23 Ligue 1 appearances, in 2021-2022. His contract with Reims runs until June 2024.
