The number 10 of Olympique de Marseille comes out of a complicated season. Little used by Igor Tudor (27 appearances, 11 starts, 4 goals, 3 assists), the Reunionese, at 36, has been chomping at the bit on the bench. But Dimitri Payet does not want to feel sorry for himself, and intends to work for his place: “I have not been promised anything at a club where I have always fought to have playing time. This year has certainly been complicated. But, at my age, I still learned. I will not miss my outing. This year has been exceptional emotionally with the supporters and yet it is the season where I have played the least. I want to leave through the front door, and even at 36, I still have goals that keep me awake. I tell myself that I can’t stop until I win something with this club”.

Payet’s future at OM

The French international with 38 caps discussed his future in a roundabout way, with a punchline for Igor Tudor: “I’m in good shape, I took a year off”. Then more specifically: “Still at OM next season? I will not be loaned, I will be there for those who may have doubted it. And for a long time, I hope”.

The president of OM, Pablo Longoria, himself doubted it. The Spaniard, present at a press conference on Monday, revealed that the next Marseille coach will have to decide the fate of Dimitri Payet. Currently, the former Stéphanois, Lille and Nantes player has a contract with OM until 2024. An extension beyond this deadline seems excluded, but a loan is not on the agenda for the Frenchman.

The captain of Marseille, mentioned abroad, should therefore be a Phocaean next season.
