The shock did not last long. Three days after a victory against AC Ajaccio (2-0), Olympique Lyonnais settled for a home draw against Stade Brestois (0-0) on Wednesday evening, in a match counting for the 21st day of Ligue 1. With 29 points, the club based in the Rhône occupies only tenth place in the standings sixteen lengths from Racing Club de Lens, third. Struggling on the field, the Gones also do not display great serenity outside. Remote tackles between President Jean-Michel Aulas and former sports director Juninho, angry supporters… Tensions are high behind the scenes. After his players’ match, Laurent Blanc accepted in front of the journalists to talk about the Lyon context. The Rhone coach acknowledged that daily life is not peaceful.

“You do not have to be afraid”

“It’s the least we can say. We have to ignore that. I said to the players: ‘Don’t be afraid to go out on the pitch, on your pitch. The Groupama Stadium is yours. There is no one who can play for you. No one. Neither you nor the spectators. Only players can play.’ You might like to play, the spectators might like to play. But you know very well that it would last two seconds. You do not have to be afraid. The context is difficult for various reasons. We can understand and accept it. Once you are in the field, no one will come to take your place. Spectators cannot play for you. The best thing is to win and take points. Today my players did pretty much everything except score.”
